Most people have heard of the words “Jaws of Life”, but don’t really know what they are. Fire Fighters usually arrive at the scene of a mangled car accident crashes, and they use this tool to save lives. The force of a car crash can prevent rescuers from getting victims out of a deformed vehicle wreck. In some life-threatening situations the crushed car is can cause the victim to die from their injuries if the emergency medical personnel are not able to get to the car accident injury victims.
You have heard jaws of life used by news, but the jaws of life tool are actually several different tools used to pry open metal. The tool is a portable hydraulic tool that cut, spread, or ram open a part of a crushed vehicle. Just recently these tools were used to rescue a woman in Detroit who was trapped in her Mercedes car after a fire truck crashed into her vehicle. The crash happened at the intersection of McClellan and Forrest in Detroit Michigan. She suffered serious injuries. Rescuers had to cut the woman free from the vehicle using hydraulic tools.
In many situations, rescuers would have to use tools like dangerous torches and circular saws to cut through the metal, which could cause injuries, or crowbars which would take long and may not work. The Jaws of Life are a necessary part of today’s rescue tools.
